The five stages

Your score out of 100 maps to a stage. There is no shame at any stage. There is also no cure.

Conditions

What's your diagnosis?

Eight entirely made-up conditions, each with its own diagnostic code. Yours comes from your most severe symptom. Collect them all (please don't).

Methodology

How the score works

Nine symptoms, explicit rules. The score measures excess (hours, streaks, volume, delegation), never when you work. Each one earns points linearly between two thresholds. If a symptom can't be measured reliably from your data, it's skipped and the score is renormalized over the others: never a fake zero.

Sessions end after 30 minutes of inactivity. Night means 00:00-05:00 in your time zone. The observation window is the transcript history Claude Code keeps (30 days by default).

Your prompts stay yours

What gets published

  • Score, stage and diagnosis
  • Each symptom's value and points
  • Prompt counts per hour, weekday and day
  • Model family shares (Opus, Sonnet…)
  • Numbers and fixed labels only: the server rejects any free text

What never leaves your machine

  • The text of your prompts or Claude's answers
  • Code, file paths, project names, git branches
  • Tool inputs and outputs, MCP server names
  • Anything identifying you: no account, no cookies, no IP address kept with your report

The score is computed on your machine by a deterministic script; Claude never reads your transcripts for it. Re-running updates the same link. Delete your page anytime with --unpublish, or stay fully offline with --no-publish. Pages expire after a year without an update.

Claude Dependency Test is a side project by , built (fittingly) with an unhealthy amount of Claude Code. New symptoms, conditions and experiments are announced on social media first.

FAQ

Is this an official Anthropic product?

No. It's an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic.

Is it an actual medical diagnosis?

Absolutely not. It's a joke with honest math. If you're worried about your screen time, talk to a human professional.

Why is my observation window only 30 days?

Claude Code deletes transcripts older than cleanupPeriodDays (30 by default). The test only sees what's still on disk.

Can I cheat?

The site only checks that the numbers are plausible, so technically yes. You could also just use Claude less. We know which one you'll pick.
